Singapore Food Agency Allocates $40 Million to Drive Food Innovation Development
The Singapore Food Agency announced that it will invest $40 million under the second phase of the "Singapore Food Story" research program to fund 12 food innovation projects, aimed at advancing technologies in urban agriculture, aquaculture, future foods, and food safety.
This announcement was officially made by Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Lawrence Wong, at the welcome ceremony of the Singapore International Agri-Food Week. He stated that this funding reflects Singapore's emphasis on sustainable development and innovation in the agri-food sector, with hopes that through research support, Singapore's food security and technological competitiveness will be further enhanced.
According to the statement released by the Singapore Food Agency, these 12 projects are divided into multiple areas: two projects received seed funding support, focusing on early-stage research and development; five projects focus on research translation with commercialization potential; four projects fall under the "Future Foods Grant," concentrating on developing future food technologies such as alternative proteins; and another project is driven by the Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE), focusing on researching indoor farming systems to optimize agricultural production efficiency in urban environments.
The Food Agency stated that these projects will bring together the strengths of government, research institutions, and enterprises to jointly drive Singapore to become a global innovation center in the agri-food sector. These research projects aim not only to enhance local food production capabilities but also to provide solutions for addressing global food security issues.

Driving the Innovation Blueprint for Future Foods
Among the four projects supported by the "Future Foods Grant," research teams are dedicated to developing alternative protein foods, such as producing new protein sources through cell culture or fermentation technologies. Additionally, research in the food safety field is continuously breaking new ground, ensuring that novel foods can meet strict quality and safety standards.
The Director of the Singapore Food Agency pointed out that this funding investment will further consolidate Singapore's leading position in agri-food technology, while accelerating the transformation of research outcomes and driving the local food industry toward international markets.
As Asia's food innovation hub, the Singapore International Agri-Food Week provides a platform for industry professionals to exchange ideas and collaborate. This funding program undoubtedly provides a solid foundation for Singapore to achieve its goals of food supply diversification and technological innovation.
